This case study examines a specification-first AI coding agent performing a large-scale architectural refactoring by dismantling a core invariant across 189 files in a 717,000-line codebase, without human code review or a test oracle. The task was deemed infeasible through incremental refactoring, requiring instead a comprehensive rewrite approach executed autonomously by the AI agent.
