OpenAI has announced significant updates to its model lineup, focusing on enhancing the reliability and accessibility of the GPT-5.6 architecture. For Plus and Pro subscribers, the GPT-5.6 Sol model has been optimized to provide more factual, focused responses with improved source utilization. Internal evaluations demonstrate substantial accuracy gains over GPT-5.5 Instant, with factual errors decreasing by 68% in GPT-5.6 Sol and 62% in GPT-5.6 Luna during testing involving financial, medical, and legal prompts. To provide a more consistent user experience, OpenAI is unifying the tone between "Instant" and "Thinking" modes, introducing a new slider for paid users to manually adjust the computational effort applied to a response. Meanwhile, Free and Go users will see GPT-5.6 Luna become their default model, which will soon include unlimited text chats and a "Think" button for high-reasoning tasks. While text interactions are being expanded for free users, limits remain in place for multimodal tools like image generation and file uploads. Additionally, the company implemented enhanced safety training for users under 18, specifically targeting the mitigation of risks related to romantic roleplay, age-restricted content, and harmful behaviors.
