OpenCode is an open-source AI coding agent distributed via multiple package managers including npm (opencode-ai@latest), Homebrew (anomalyco/tap/opencode and official formula), Scoop, Chocolatey, pacman, AUR, mise, and Nix, with a universal install script respecting OPENCODE_INSTALL_DIR, XDG_BIN_DIR, HOME/bin, and HOME/.opencode/bin precedence. Desktop builds ship for macOS (ARM64 and x64 DMG), Windows (x64 EXE), and Linux (DEB, RPM, AppImage), also installable via Homebrew Cask and Scoop Extras. The CLI exposes two built-in agents switchable via Tab: "build," a full-access development agent, and "plan," a read-only analysis agent that denies file edits and requires confirmation before executing shell commands, suited for codebase exploration. A general-purpose subagent handles complex multi-step searches and tasks, invoked through the @general directive. Configuration and contribution guidelines are documented separately, and the project requests unaffiliated derivatives using the "opencode" prefix to disclose non-affiliation.
