Retrieval-augmented generation systems often rely on retrieval scores to assess context relevance and determine answer grounding. A small Romanian question-answering system tested this assumption, revealing that high retrieval scores do not reliably indicate valid answers. The experiment demonstrated that retrieval scores cannot alone gate a RAG system's responses. Read original
